PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Authorities continue to watch for a Minnesota man who they allege threatened Governor Dennis Daugaard and his family. An arrest warrant was issued in Hughes County for 53-year-old William Roman Becker of Monticello, Minnesota-for the offenses of Threatening a Constitutional Officer and Threatening a Constitutional Officer’s Family. Officials say telephoned threats were made against the Governor and his family recently. Law enforcers investigated and Hughes County officials determined that an arrest warrant was appropriate. Hughes County Sheriff Mike Leidholt says authorities are using all resources available to track down Becker and he asks that anyone that has any information that could help locate Becker to contact law enforcement. He says it is imperative that Becker be taken into custody and he believes Becker to be dangerous. Leidholt says the search for Becker is a joint effort among various agencies and will continue that way until he is arrested. Both threat related counts are Class 5 felonies and each carries a maximum penalty of five years, a $10,000 fine or both.
Thursday, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office said they believe Becker is driving a 1985 Dodge Ram van with Minnesota license plate number R-V-B 8184. They said Becker could be in southeast South Dakota or southwest Minnesota. A warrant was also issued for Becker in Brookings County for failing to appear on a felony charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.
