PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The South Dakota Retailers Association is currently taking nominations for the “South Dakota Retailer of the Year Award”. Each year, the organization gives out the award to a business owner or manager who runs a top notch business and is a community booster. Previous award recipients have been hardware stores, restaurants, grocery stories, clothing stores, flower shops, gift shops, a book store and other businesses that play an important role in the every day life of communities across South Dakota. Shawn Lyons, Executive Director for the SDRA, says that past few years have brought challenges for business owners. He says many businesses tightened their belts this year because of the drought and last year, many contended with flooding. However, Lyons says no matter the circumstances, the state’s retailers continue to be the backbone of their local communities. He says he hopes that those that depend on the businesses for donations, employees and customers will fill out a nomination form and submit it to the Retailers Association office. Nominations must be postmarked by November 12 or submitted online or via e-mail by November 15. The recipient will be honored at the SDRA Legislative Banquet in Pierre in January. Contact the SDRA at 224-5050 or 1-800-658-5545 or visit the website www.sdra.org.
