Hoven School Opt-Out Passes

Vote Checkmark

HOVEN, S.D. – (DRG News) Unofficial results indicate that the Hoven School District Opt Out passed yesterday. District Business Manager Amy Arbach says the voters approved a $200,000 opt out for seven years beginning with 2012 taxes, payable in 2013. She says taxpayers will start paying the first half that is due by April 30 of next year. Unofficial numbers show 396 yes votes in favor of the opt out and 227 no votes. The district has opted out for the past seven years at an amount each year of up to $168,000 and that opt out comes to an end next month. Arbach says the new opt out will replace the expiring opt out and will go into effect on November 1. The school board will canvas the election results tonight with a special board meeting.
