PRESHO, S.D. – (DRG News) The Presho Fire Department spent some time the past three days fighting fires in the area. Presho Fire Chief Donny Manger says firefighters were called around noon on Saturday to the report of a fire south of Presho near the White River. Manger says the fire burned over 800 acres of pastureland and 150 bales. Six departments fought the blaze for about 15 hours and returned to the fire scene on Sunday for about four hours to put out hot spots. The fire was knocked down before it reached any structures. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Monday, Manger says a fire burned about 50 acres and 12 bales. That blaze occurred about 3 ½ miles north of Presho. Presho and Kennebec firefighters were on hand at the Monday fire, which was reported about 11:15 a.m. Manger says firefighters stayed into the late afternoon to make sure the blaze was completely out. The cause of that fire had not been determined as of Monday afternoon.
