SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Department of Tourism says visitor numbers to the state’s private and public attractions are up this summer compared to last summer.
Ashley Worth with the Department of Tourism says numbers at the state’s private attractions are up 8 to 25 percent. More than 2 million people have visited the state’s National Parks through July. That’s 8 percent higher than the same time last year.
South Dakota’s state parks have seen 4.6 million visitors through July of this year. This is a nearly 25 percent increase over the same period last year.
Worth tells the Black Hills Pioneer (http://bit.ly/O9aSsx) that demand for hotels in South Dakota from January through July also increased by 7.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
