PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The Governor’s Drought Taskforce is meeting in Pierre on Tuesday.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map shows that about 61 percent of South Dakota is in severe or extreme drought. The hardest-hit areas in South Dakota are in the southwest and the southeast.
Representatives from several government agencies serve on the group, which exchanges and coordinates information about drought conditions. Gov. Dennis Daugaard activated the task force.
The meeting begins at 2 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center.
