PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Officials with the Great Lakes of South Dakota Tourism Association are looking for the assistance of the public in identifying some photos that were found at the Oahe Visitor Center. The association this year moved from its former offices on Missouri Avenue in Pierre to the Visitor Center near Oahe Dam. While cleaning, some 8 X 10 photos were found, which appear to show a cattle drive that occurred near the dam, likely around 1980. Ray Lewis, who serves on the board for the Tourism Association, says they are looking for assistance in identifying exactly when the drive took place and whose cattle drive it was.
Lewis says the photos are a mystery and though he’s asked many people whether they know more about the pictures, he has yet to find answers. Lewis says it would be great to have someone step forward with more information.
Lewis believes this was one of the last cattle drives through the area near Oahe Dam.
Lewis says he would appreciate the public’s help and is looking forward to meeting one of those who were there at the cattle drive shown in the pictures. Those that might have more information on the photos can call Lewis at 222-9048.
