Woman Facing Rape Charge Indicted on New Charges

Scales of Justice and Judge's Gavel

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Sioux Falls woman appeared in a Pierre courtroom Monday on new charges that include First Degree Rape and Sexual Contact with a Child Under 16. 44-year-old Donna Todd, a former Pierre resident, was indicted in July on two counts of Rape and one count of Sexual Contact. Hughes County Deputy States Attorney Wendy Kloeppner says the recent indictment is in addition to a charge of First Degree Rape, which a Hughes County Grand Jury leveled in November. Both indictments allege crimes against one victim. Investigators say the recent charges are linked to offenses that reportedly occurred during various months in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Authorities say Todd committed the rape in the first indictment in 2001. At Monday’s initial appearance on the new charges, Todd heard her rights and Brad Schreiber-who has represented Todd on the other charge-was appointed as her lawyer on the latest counts. Kloeppner says Todd was previously released on the initial charge on a ten thousand dollar cash or surety bond. The next court date on the three new charges will be September 5 at 3:00 p.m. Another court date has yet to be set in Todd’s other case.
