PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) An organization that usually serves the Pierre and Fort Pierre area is expanding to complete projects in the town of Onida. Oahe Habitat for Humanity members are planning to complete two “A Brush with Kindness” projects over the next few weeks in Onida. Oahe Habitat for Humanity Board President Kevin Hipple says “A Brush with Kindness” projects include painting, landscaping, weather stripping and minor repair services for homeowners in need. Hipple says in a press release that the goal is to help low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the outside of their homes. He says there have been requests from two Onida homeowners to help with some home upkeep projects. Volunteers plan to do some caulking, painting, deck repair, tree trimming and other home maintenance work. Over the years, Oahe Habitat for Humanity has built nine homes in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area and completed one “A Brush with Kindness Project”. Hipple says volunteers will work in Onida this Saturday-the 18th-and next Saturday, August 25. The organization also plans to build a new Habitat home next year. They are looking for eligible partner families to work with for both full home construction projects and ‘A Brush with Kindness” projects. Anyone that would like to apply as a partner family should call 224-6744 or visit www.oahehabitat.org. To volunteer with the organization or provide donations for upcoming projects, contact Jamie McEntaffer at 945-3718 during business hours or Don Zeller at 280-7590.
