Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area Offering Limited Edition Prints for Fundraiser

Photo with Governor Print Sales August 2012

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A major fundraising effort for the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area got underway yesterday. The organization is planning to sell limited-edition photographic prints of a picture of the South Dakota Capitol building taken earlier this year by local photographer Bob Grandpre. 100 prints will be sold. The prints will be signed and numbered by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard. The first ten prints will be $750 each and the next 90 will be $550 each. Buyers can pick the numbered print of their choice on a first-come, first served basis for an added $50. Grandpre, who also serves as Pierre’s Police Chief, says he took the photo the weekend before the 2012 Legislative Session started. He says he didn’t realize how good the shot was until he got home later.

Besides the limited edition prints, the club will also offer at online auction, one canvas print of the same photo. The special print will have the signatures of Governor Daugaard, Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court David Gilbertson, President of the Senate-Lt. Governor Matt Michels and Speaker of the House Val Rausch. The auction opens Tuesday and bidding closes November 7. The club website will have a link for the auction soon. Club Director Becky Bowers says she thinks the fundraiser with the prints is great-and that it shows that local and state officials back the work that the club does.

Governor Daugaard says several non-profit youth organizations benefit from fundraisers like this one.

Other governmental related activities that the club has tied into in the past have included the iCivics Program, which teaches members about government and the importance of civic involvement.
