State American Legion Baseball Tournament Begins in Aberdeen




ABERDEEN, S.D. – The first day of the South Dakota State American Legion Championship baseball tournament featured alot of runs with the first two games ending on the mercy rule,  a rain delay during the evening round.  Brookings, Sioux Falls East, Rapid City Post 22 and Brandon Valley posted first day wins at the double elimination tournament.  Brookings needed only 7 innings to dispose of Sioux Falls West 10-0 in the opener.  In Game 2 of the day, defending State Champion Sioux Falls East downed Spearfish 16-4 in 8 innings.  The night games got a delayed start due to rain,  Once they did get going, Rapid City Post 22 jumped out to a 8-0 lead and then held on for a 14-9 win over Watertown and in the games final day, Brandon Valley mauled Aberdeen 23-8.  Elimination games today at the tournament have Sioux Falls West facing Watertown at 10 am and Spearfish facing Aberdeen at approximatly 1 pm.  In the winner bracket games tonight, Brookings will face Rapid City Post 22 at 5 pm and Brandon Valley will take on Sioux Falls East.  The double elimination tournament will decide it’s champion on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Central Plains Region Baseball tournament.
