PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) No one was injured in a three vehicle accident that occurred east of Pierre Wednesday, but all the vehicles had to be towed from the scene of the wreck. The Department of Public Safety says the accident was reported about 1:15 p.m. yesterday afternoon and occurred on Highway 14 at Kingsway Road. Terry Woster of the DPS says a Chevrolet pickup being driven by a Pierre man, 31-year-old Bradley Kuipers, was crossing Highway 14 where it intersects with Kingsway Road, when it was struck by a Dodge pickup, driven by 69-year-old James Zell. The Kuipers pickup was spun around by the impact and struck a state-owned vehicle driven by 43-year-old Jason Jares of Pierre. Authorities say that an ambulance was called but there were no major injuries. Seatbelts were used by the vehicle occupants. The Pierre Fire Department’s Rescue Squad was also summoned to the scene when it was believed that one person was trapped, but the unit’s assistance was not needed. Fire crews did help with cleanup at the scene. Kuipers was cited for Failure to Yield. The SD Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Other agencies that assisted at the scene included the Pierre Police Department, AMR ambulance, Hughes County Sheriff’s Office and the Pierre Fire Department.
