SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Fourteen South Dakota political committees are facing potential $3,000 fines for missing a May deadline for filing disclosure reports.
The affected groups represent the South Dakota Tea Party, athletic trainers, firefighters and other organizations, along with four state lawmakers.
Officials of some of the PACs tell the Sioux Falls Argus Leader they weren’t aware they were late, and they’re working to remedy the problem.
The reports were due May 25. South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says the 14 committees got notices in early June that their reports were late. None of them replied.
The late filers can be fined $50 a day for up to 60 days, which is a maximum of $3,000.
