Corps Working to Repair Tri County Water System After Service Pipe Surfaced in Lake Oahe Bay

Tri County Pipe on Lake Oahe

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A small section of water pipe remains above water in the vicinity of the Minneconjou Recreation Area, as the Corps of Engineers is making repairs that will likely result in the pipe returning to the river bottom sometime soon. Eric Stasch-Operations Manager for the Corps’ Oahe Project-says a small section of the 14-inch pipe that serves customers of the Tri County Water System is still floating in a bay near the original Tri County intake. At one point last week, a segment measuring about 50 feet was on the water. It’s believed that an air bubble in the system caused a portion of the pipeline to rise up on the lake. Stasch says the problem has been identified and is being repaired, and at the same time, work is being done on a new system intake. He says once those projects are complete, the air bubble should be pushed through the system and the piping will sink back into place on the river bottom. Officials with Tri County say that posters have been put up to alert boaters at boat docks near the old intake on the side of the water that borders the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.
