UNDATED – (DRG News) This week brings more meetings as part of AARP South Dakota’s statewide listening tour on Medicare and Social Security. AARP South Dakota’s Cathy McLeer says the gatherings are coming up in central South Dakota to give people a chance to weigh in on the debate in Washington, D.C. about Medicare and Social Security.
The “You’ve Earned a Say” van is stopping for listening sessions in every South Dakota county this summer. The meetings started in April and 41 counties have already been visited. AARP will end with a gathering August 30 at the State Fair. McLeer says the effort gives people a chance to fill out a questionnaire about Medicare and Social Security, hear options being proposed in the nation’s capital and join a discussion on the programs.
McLeer says many people express how important they feel Social Security and Medicare are in their lives and for future generations.
The next meetings on the tour will be Wednesday from noon to one at the Lodestar Casino in Fort Thompson and in Gettysburg from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. Other sessions will be Thursday in Mobridge from 8-9 a.m. at the Wrangler Inn, in Herreid from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at Ruthie’s and in McLaughlin from 5-6 at the City Hall Meeting Room. On Friday, there will be a meeting in Timber Lake from 8-9 a.m. at the Community Center and in Fort Pierre from 3-4 p.m. at Perkins. To register for the meetings, call 1-877-926-8300 or to see the full schedule, visit www.aarp.org/sd.
