SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Runs were easy to come by Saturday night as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Sioux Falls Pheasants 14-7 at Sioux Falls Stadium. The Pheasants scored their first run in the first inning, but Winnipeg tied the game in the second and grabbed a large advantage with an eight-run third inning. Luis Alen’s single, the first of five RBI hits in the frame, put the Goldeyes over the top. After 12 Goldeyes batted, the lead was 9-1. Pheasants starter Mark Michael (5-6) lasted three innings and gave up nine runs on seven hits. He got into trouble by walking three men and hitting two batters, and he struck out one in the loss. The Pheasants offense struck for ten or more hits for the fourth straight game and three players had multi-hit performances. Jared Bolden finished 3-for-4, Cesar Nicolas went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Cory Morales hit 2-for-5 with two RBI. Brian Beuning (3-0) earned the win in relief of starter Rich Hawkins. He tossed the final 3 2/3 innings, striking out three and holding the Pheasants to two hits.
