Highmore Cowboy Wins National Title at National High School Finals Rodeo

¬†ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – The National High School Rodeo Finals came to a close in Wyoming on Saturday night. Highmore’s Drew Cowan brought home the title in tie-down roping with a best time of 27.8 seconds. Rapid City’s Shane O’Connell finished sixth in the bareback average with a 200-point effort, while Cowan finished in a tie for ninth place. Garretson’s Sean McPadden took third in steer wrestling in 18.59, and Sturgis’ Kristi Steffes finished 13th in pole bending in a time of 61.664. Cowan finished second in tie-down roping with a time of 8.83 seconds. O’Connell finished third in the second round in bareback riding, posting a 72. Erin Kenzy of Iowa tied for sixth place in girls cutting with a 218. Spearfish’s Taylor Engesser finished third in barrel racing with a time of 17.32, and McPadden took seventh in steer wrestling with a time of 4.97.
