PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Sioux Falls Post 307 Friday night at Hyde Stadium. Post 8 bats erupted for 16 hits in a 15-4 win in 5 innings in the opener. In the nightcap, Post 8 broke open a tight game with 4 run 6th inning in a 6-1 win over Post 307. In the opener, Willie Welch went 5 innings to pick up the win striking out 4 and walking 3 while allowing 6 hits. Pierre scored in every inning and put the game away with a 6 run 3rd inning and then plaated 6 more runs in the 4th. Alex McGuigan delivered a 2 run triple in the 3rd inning and Jared Nielan contributed a 3 run triple in the 4th. In the nightcap, Mac Mercer pitched 6 strong innings allowing 1 run and 4 hits. Joe Snyder pitched the 7th inning. Pierre took the lead in the bottom of the 5th scoring two runs after Sioux Falls Post 307 scored a run in the top of the 5th. Pierre added 4 runs in the 6th inning to sweep the doubleheader and finish the season with a 25-23 record on the season. Pierre wins 4 of 5 during the last week of the regular season and goes into next week’s Region 3A tournament in Sturgis with momentum Post 8 will face Sturgis in the opening round of the Region Tournament at noon central time on Wednesday.
