PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Department of Transportation is asking farmers to try to keep their field irrigation systems from spraying water onto state highways.
The DOT says the overspray can endanger motorists by creating a slippery road surface and limiting visibility for drivers.
Such conditions can be especially dangerous for motorcyclists with the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaching. The number of bikers on South Dakota roads will be much higher than normal for the next several weeks.
The DOT says bikers may unexpectedly get hit with a spray of water, which can lead to potentially serious or fatal accidents.
