Pheasants Snap Losing Streak

SIOUX CITY. Iowa – The Sioux Falls Pheasants broke a six-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday night in Sioux City. The Pheasants’ bats erupted for 13 hits while starter Alan DeRatt (3-3) tossed a gem to lead the effort. Quintana, Guerrero and Nicolas each had multi-hit performances. Al Quintana was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Pheasants while Christian Guerrero went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored and Cesar Nicolas was 2-for-4 with two RBI. DeRatt threw seven innings allowing one run on only two hits. He also walked five and struck out three. Except for the bases-loaded jam in the fifth, DeRatt allowed multiple base runners just once and retired the final nine men he faced. Dan Cooper, Jack Van Leur and Kyle Mertins combined to shut out the Explorers (24-29) in the final two innings. Game Two of the series is tonight in Sioux City.
