PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Central South Dakota Heart Walk started its fundraising efforts earlier this month as part of its 20th Anniversary Event which will be held this fall. The organization recently received a $1,500 sponsorship donation from the Sanford Clinic of Pierre. In a press release, Meshanna Heckenlaible, who is the 2012 Heart Walk co-chair, says the donation will help kick start fundraising efforts and will go a long ways toward helping achieve the goal of raising $30,000. This year’s Central South Dakota Heart Walk will be held September 22 at Hyde Stadium in Pierre. The heart walk educates South Dakotans about the risk factors of cardiovascular disease and stroke and what they can do to prevent them. There is no cost to take part, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds, which go toward supporting medical research, regional grants and educational programs of the American Heart Association. To find out more about this fall’s walk, contact Heckenlaible at 222-1405.
