PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre School Board met yesterday for its monthly board meeting. Randy Hartmann and Dennis James were sworn in early in the meeting. Hartmann replaces Todd Douglas and James is starting a second term. The board thanked Douglas for his seven years of service to the district and held a brief recognition event before resuming with the meeting agenda. Both Hartmann and James were selected by voters in last month’s election.
The board also laid out committee assignments for the coming school year. Committee members will be:
Negotiations: Deanne Booth and Dennis James
Policy: Randy Hartmann and Cari Leidholt
Personnel and Professional Activities: Dennis James & Cari Leidholt
Curriculum: Randy Vance and Cari Leidholt
Buildings and Grounds: Randy Vance and Randy Hartmann
Sports Marketing: Randy Vance and Deanne Booth
Community Member: Greg Dean
Cari Leidholt was chosen to serve as Board President and Randy Vance as Vice President.
Also yesterday after some staff contracts were approved by the board, Dr. Kelly Glodt announced that all certified staff members been hired for the coming school year, with the exception of a school psychologist. Glodt says the district works to fill openings as soon as possible.
As for hiring a school psychologist, Glodt says there are options, if the position isn’t filled soon.
The board yesterday approved the contracts of two Special Education teachers at Jefferson School-one full and one part time-and gave the okay for various coaching contracts and contract changes.
