Grass Fires Started by Fireworks

July 4 Grass Fire in Pierre

A grass fire along a busy Pierre street July 4 was caused by fireworks and burned a small patch of grass. The Pierre Fire Department responded to the fire on Garfield Avenue-also known as the Truck Bypass on the afternoon of the Fourth. The fire was one of several in the days before and on Independence Day. Fort Pierre firefighters responded to 8-10 grass fires-all fireworks related on the evening of July 4. Pierre and Pierre Rural firefighters also had a few fire calls, as well. (Thanks to Brian Oakland for Garfield Avenue photos).
