PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Those planning a getaway for the Fourth of July are reminded that campsites are still available at many South Dakota state parks. Since the Fourth is on a Wednesday, many campers chose to book sites on the weekends before and after the holiday. As a result, more people have the chance to stay at state parks for the popular camping holiday. State Parks and Recreation Director Doug Hofer said late last week that as many as 800 campsites were still available for tomorrow and Wednesday. He cited only a few parks that don’t have at least a few sites available during the middle of the week. Since the holiday is on a Wednesday, a three-night stay is not required for midweek outings. Reservations can be made online at www.campsd.com or by calling 1-800-710-2267.
