PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre School Board approved the budget during a special meeting held last week. Thursday, the board gave the okay to the budget for the next school year. The budget has a 5.2% increase from that of the previous year. Business Manager Darla Mayer says one of the main reasons for the higher budget has to do with a bonus that will be given to staff members next month. The bonus is being paid for through one-time money coming from the state and federal government.
Mayer also says the budget includes over $600,000 which will help pay toward a Capital Outlay Certificate due next June.
The certificates were issued in 2003 for Riggs kitchen renovation and the upgrade of heating, cooling and ventilation systems at Washington Elementary. Money had already been set aside for the one time payment. The $22.3 million dollar budget for the new year is up from last year’s total of $21.2 million dollars.
