PIERRE, S.D. – Your Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball team split a doubleheader with Spearfish Thursday night in Spearfish. Pierre dropped the opener 15-2 in 5 innings on the 10 run rule. But they bounced back in the nightcap to record a 6-2 win. In the opener, Pierre scored the first 2 runs of the game in the first inning only to see Spearfish bounce back with 12 runs in the bottom half of the first inning. 17 Spearfish batters came to bat in the inning. Riley Hamilton, who also was the winning pitcher for Spearfish had 3 hits and 4 RBI’s on the game. Jarred Nielan had a pair of hits for Post 8 and Alex McGuigan face only 6 batters and allowed 6 runs on 4 hits to take the loss. Cody Honeywell also allowed 8 runs and Joe Snyder pitched an inning and allowed a run. In the nightcap, Gage Curtis limited Spearfish to 1 run and 4 hits over 5.2 innings. Willie Welch pitched the final 1.1 innings striking out 4 of the 5 outs he got. Elliot Coughlin had a double and triple and a run batte in ot lead the Pierre offense that had 8 hits. Pierre has won 8 of their last 9 and is 15-16 on the season as they travel to Rapid City to compete in the Rapid City Post 320 Black Hills Classic baseball tournament Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
