PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The South Dakota Department of Transportation is starting work today to place a microsurfacing seal coat on U.S. Highway 183 in Lyman County. The work will be done on a 15-mile section of the highway from Presho south to the White River. The seal coat being applied on the highway differs from normal seal coats in that it goes down into the road surface and hardens quickly-allowing traffic to travel over it after just one hour. The process corrects surface deformities and is said to extend the life of pavement. It also delays having to do a more expensive asphalt overlay. The Lyman County project is one of several that are underway across the state right now. Complete road construction information is available at www.safetravelusa.com/sd or by dialing 5-1-1.
