State-Tribal Relations Committee to Meet This Week in Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The South Dakota Legislature’s State-Tribal Relations Committee meets this week at the State Capitol in Pierre. On Wednesday, the committee will hear presentations by Secretary J.R. LaPlante of the South Dakota Department of Tribal Affairs; Roger Campbell, Director of the South Dakota Office of Indian Education; and Deputy Secretary Laurie Feiler of the South Dakota Department of Corrections. The committee will also talk about study topics and meeting locations for the rest of the 2012 Interim. The State-Tribal Relations Committee was set up in 1993 and is made up of ten state lawmakers who study relations between state and local governments and the tribes and their tribal governments. It also serves as a forum for the discussion of issues of concern to all three governmental levels. The committee will meet Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. in Room 412 of the Capitol.
