BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – Drew Cowan claimed the 2012 boys all-around championship of the South Dakota State High School Finals Rodeo that wrapped up over the weekend in Belle Fourche, utilizing a 2012 tie down roping state championship and a second place in boys cutting earlier in the week. Kristi Steffes of Vale used a second in the pole bending short go and a narrow win in barrels over Taylor Engesser on her way to a repeat girls all-around championship. Other winners at the State High School Finals included Taylor Schuelke in the Saddle Bronc. Shane O’Connell of Rapid City won the Bareback. Ryan Knutson of Toronto won the Bull Riding title. Jhett Williams of Faith took the top spot in Steer Wrestling and Hallie Fulton of Miller won the Goat Tying. The next stop for South Dakota national team qualifiers is a July 15-21 stop in Rock Springs, Wyo., for the 64th Annual National High School Rodeo.
