PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Pierre man received an award at the recent State Convention of the South Dakota Department of the American Legion. Royce Loesch was presented with the Robert C. Gabrielson Memorial Leadership Award earlier this month. The award recognizes one Legionnaire each year for sustained, superior and inspirational leadership. The award is named in the memory of Past American Legion State Commander Robert C. Gabrielson of Hoven, who served the Legion at the local post, district, state and national levels. Loesch is a Vietnam era veteran and has been in the American Legion for 12 years. He has served as Post 8 Commander in Pierre, District 10 Commander and District 3 Commander. He was selected as District 10 Legionnaire of the Year in 2008, South Dakota Recruiter of the Year for 2009 and won the National Membership “Gold Brigade” Award in 2009. The 94th annual State Convention of the South Dakota Department of the American Legion was held June 14-17 in Watertown.
