ABERDEEN, S.D. – Your Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball team is on a roll. Post 8 won their 7th straight yesterday as they downed Groton 10-2 in their final game of the Vern Jark Memorial Wood Bat Classic. By virtue of Pierre being the only team to win all 4 of it’s tournament games, Post 8 won the championship of the tournament. Willie Welch started and went the distance striking out 3 and not walking anybody. Pierre also was the beneficiary of a pair of double plays started by shortstop Ryan Goodwin that ended Groton threats to score in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Post 8 had 7 hits in the win. A 4 run 4th inning was the big inning in the game that put Pierre ahead 7-1 at the time. Pierre also used 14 walks issued by Groton pitching to their advantage.  Pierre opened the tournament with a 12-2 win over Aberdeen on Friday and followed that up with a 5-3 win over Morris, Minnesota and a 13-4 victory over Aberdeen on Saturday.  With Sunday’s win, Pierre improved to 14-15 on the season as they travel to Spearfish for a doubleheader Thursday night.
