ABERDEEN, S.D. – Your Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team downed Aberdeen Smittys 12-2 in 5 innings in last night’s opening round of the Vern Jark Memorial Wood Bat Baseball tournament in Aberdeen. Pierre jumped on Smittys for 6 runs in the second inning and never looked back after Aberdeen had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Pierre would add 3 runs each in the 4th and 5th innings. Alex McGuigan pitched a 3 hitter in getting the win despite walking 5 batters. Pierre had 12 hits in the game and also took advantage of 6 Aberdeen errors to win their 4th straight, the longest winning streak of the season. Several Pierre players had 2 hits apeice in the win. Post 8 is now 11 and 15 on the season as they face Morris, Minnesota in a 1:15 pm game and Aberdeen again at 6 pm. Tommorrow they will take on Groton at 12:15 pm. The tournament scheduled was revamped by Aberdeen officials after Madison, Minnesota informed them yesterday morning they would be unavailable to make the trip to Aberdeen for the tournament.
