CASPAR, Wyo. – Black Hills State’s Joey Painter continues to lead the breakaway roping average at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., after her third go-round Wednesday. The Buffalo native registered a run of 4 seconds flat in her third go for a 9.6 total after the three runs. The next closest competitor with three registered scores is at 11.1 seconds. South Dakota State’s Justin Zwiefel clocked a time of 10 seconds even in tie-down roping to place within the top 10 of the average. His total time of 42 seconds is nearly 14 seconds off the lead. The Jackrabbits’ Troy Donnelly was part of a team roping duo that has clocked the fastest time in the rodeo so far at 4.9 seconds, but their place in the average heading into the final performance is still up in the air. The rodeo continues through Saturday night.
