MITCHELL, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball team lost both games of a baseball triangular in Mitchell Tuesday night by identical 5-3 scores to Valley Springs and Mitchell. In the opener against Valley Springs, Alex McGuigan pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs but Cody Honeywell could not hold the lead in the 7th inning as he allowed 2 runs on 2 hits. Pierre built a 3-0 lead through the first 3 innings scoring twice in the first and once in the third innings, but Valley Springs scored twice in the 4th and once in the 5th to tie the game at 3. Pierre had 6 hits in the opener. In the nightcap, Mitchell scored all 5 runs in the first two innings before losing pitcher Ryan Goodwin retired the last 14 Mitchell batters. Jared Nielan, Goodwin and Nate Buscher each had 3 hits but Pierre left the bases loaded in the 7th inning as Mitchell held on for the win. Pierre’s record is now 6 and 14 on the season.
