PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Next month will bring the start of a new term for two people chosen by voters to serve on the school board for the Pierre School District. Current board member Dennis James will return for another term and Randy Hartmann will fill a seat being vacated by Todd Douglas. James says he expects to continue working the next few years on making the educational system in the district the best it can be.
James says the board has accomplished a lot in recent years, including maintaining a quality staff throughout the district and adding dual credit classes that will be offered in the coming year at Riggs.
Douglas will be leaving the board next month and James says he has been a great asset to the board.
Hartmann says as he starts his service to the board, he will be taking the time to learn everything that goes into decision making for the district.
Hartmann says he decided to run for the board for several different reasons.
James received 2,191 votes Tuesday, Hartmann’s vote tally was 1,746 and Mary Fischer-Healy had 1,469 votes. The results of the school board race will be canvassed at Monday’s regular June meeting. James and Hartmann take their Oath of Office to start their terms at the July 9 meeting.
