DRAPER, S.D. – (DRG News) A fire destroyed a newer tractor and damaged a planter northeast of Draper yesterday. Ray Freier of the Draper Fire Department says the fire was reported just before noon Thursday and was burning in a tractor that was being used to pull a planter in a stubble field. Freier says the driver of the tractor noted the fire and tried to unhook the planter, but was unable to get the implement and tractor separated. The tractor was destroyed and Freier says four tires and some hoses on the planter were burned. The blaze spread into the stubble field and burned a patch about ¾’ths of a mile long. Three trucks from Draper and one unit from the Fort Pierre National Grassland responded to the fire. The fire reportedly started under the cab of the tractor. Firefighters had the fire out by about 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
