ABERDEEN, S.D. – For the fifth straight season, the Northern State women’s basketball team led the nation in home-game attendance, according to the NCAA’s attendance report. Northern State, an NCAA II institution, drew an average of 2,681 fans per home game to top second-ranked Emporia State in Kansas which drew 2,233 per game. The Wolves drew 34,851 fans to 13 home games in 2011-12. Northern was one of only two teams in Division II to top the 30,000-fan plateau. Augustana College in Sioux Falls was the only other Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference school to reach the top 10, as the Vikings averaged 1,805 fans per game. As a conference, the NSIC finished second in NCAA II in attendance trailing the Mid-American Intercollegiate Conference. The Wolves ranked 44th in the nation among all NCAA schools in three divisions. This marks the fifth straight year that NSU has led the nation in attendance in both men’s and women’s basketball. This is the eighth-straight season that the women’s program has ranked in the top three.
