PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Five new members have been appointed to the State Fire Marshal’s Advisory Board by Governor Dennis Daugaard. The advisory board had been inactive for several years. Fire Marshal Paul Merriman says that he and Public Safety Secretary Trevor Jones discussed the board earlier this year and agreed that re-activating it was a way to gather input on policies and programs. Merriman says he believes the board will give a solid connection with firefighters and other stakeholders involved in fire safety, equipment and insurance. Two central South Dakotans appointed to the board are Jerry Diamond of Oacoma and Richard Gustad, Jr. of Platte. Gustad will represent firefighters on the board and Diamond represents the fire insurance industry. Other members are from Rapid City and Crooks. The advisory board terms will be four years, but the initial terms are staggered. Diamond will serve one year and Gustad’s term is two years.
