FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Fort Pierre Fire Department was summoned to the report of a fire started by a downed electric wire yesterday. Fort Pierre Fire Chief Rick Cronin says firefighters were called about 2:20 p.m. to a location about ten miles south of Fort Pierre and five miles east on County Line Road. Cronin says several large round bales were being moved from one location to another on a trailer when the stacked hay hit a powerline and knocked it down. The line started one of the bales on fire. The bale was pushed off the trailer and into a burn pit where it could safely burn. Cronin says firefighters were at the scene of the fire call for about 15 minutes.
