SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – (DRG News) One travel organization says more South Dakotans will be driving to Memorial Day getaway destinations this year-compared to last year’s holiday weekend. AAA South Dakota says fewer South Dakotans will be flying over the weekend. A survey shows that South Dakota numbers compare to national figures that show more people will drive than fly to their holiday destination. AAA says the average gas price for the state as of Thursday was $3.63, compared to $3.86 a year ago. Prices are based on information found at www.AAAFuelGaugeReport.com. The study also shows that people will travel shorter distances for the holiday this year, but will spend more money. Travel statistics are provided for AAA by IHS Global Insight.
