Two Central SD Flood Damaged Parks Are Reopening

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) With the Memorial Day Weekend just a few days away, the State Parks Division of the Game, Fish and Parks Department says two local recreation areas will be ready. Farm Island Recreation Area east of Pierre and Oahe Downstream Recreation Area near Fort Pierre were damaged during last year’s flooding. They have been the focus of repair work and Farm Island’s main campground will open Thursday. Campground 3 at Oahe Downstream opened for the year last Friday. Campground 2 will be ready for campers for a 4:00 p.m. arrival on Friday and Campground 1 has been open since mid-April. Campers should be aware that there is ongoing shoreline repair work taking place in some parts of Oahe Downstream Recreation Area.
