SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Pierre Lady Governor golf team could not hold a 4 stroke lead and wound up finishing second at the State Class AA Girls Golf Tournament that wrapped up today in Sioux Falls at the Elmwood Golf Course. After a 331 yesterday, the Lady Govs fired a 343 today while Sioux Falls O’Gorman came from third place to take the State AA Championship for a second straight year. The Knights fired a second round 332 to finish with a 671 team score and a 3 stroke victory over the Lady Govs. Yankton finished third with a 682 team score after a second round score of 347. The good news is that the Lady Govs have a state champion in their midst. Junior Hallie Getz fired a second round 78 for a 153 total and a one shot victory over Megan Mingo of Yankton. Kristin Sabers of Mitchell finished third with a 158 score after 36 holes. Getz becomes the second Lady Governor golfer in the last 4 years to become a state champion following Taylor Smalley in 2009. Paige Erickson had a second round 82 to finish with a 36 hole score of 171 and tied for 12th. Karissa Guthrie had a second round 93 to finish with a 174 and a 17th place finish. Other Lady Governor scores included Katie Bartlett and Paige Lonbakken each firing 179 to tie for 28th place. Bartlett fired a second round 92 while Lonbakken finished with a 91 and Tatum Richards had a 99 for two round total 191 and tied for 44th. So the story of the day, Hallie Getz of Pierre becoming just the second State Champion in Pierre Lady Governor history and the Lady Govs falling to Sioux Falls O’Gorman by 3 strokes to finish 2nd at the State Class AA Girls Golf Championship today in Sioux Falls.
