Governor Tennis team in Sixth Place at State Tennis Tournament



  RAPID CITY, S.D. – Day two of the South Dakota High School Tennis Tournament was not as kind to the Pierre Governors as Day 1 was. Governor number 1 player Hans Leong lost two matches and is done. Nathan Ellenbecker at number 2 lost his third round match but bounced back to record a win over the Aberdeen Central player and will play for 5th place tomorrow. Jared Smith at number 3 singles lost both of his matches today and is done. Conner Shoup at number 4 lost his third round match and was playing in a semi final round match for 5th place. And Ethan Case at number 6 singles lost his third round match but bounced back to win ina 5th place semi final match. In doubles, Leong and Smith at number lost in the third round and was playing for a 5th place semi final match. Ellenbecker and Shoup are still in the running for a state championship as they are in the semi finals at number 2 doubles and will face the Sioux Falls O’Gorman squad. And the number 3 doubles team of Mitchell Hanson and Ethan Case are in the semi finals and will play the Sioux Falls Washington number 3 doubles team in the semi finals. In the team standings, the Governors have dropped a spot to 6th place with 356 points and trail Sioux Falls Lincoln who moved into fifth place. Sioux Falls Washington still is in the top spot after the Day two singles points are added up.
