PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking that all flags in South Dakota be flown at half-staff on Saturday in honor of former U.S. Sen. Jim Abdnor.
Abdnor died Wednesday at age 89. His funeral is Saturday at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre. Daugaard’s request is that flags be at half-staff from 8 a.m. until sunset.
Abdnor was the South Dakota Republican who ousted George McGovern from the Senate. He also served four terms in the U.S. House, headed the U.S. Small Business Administration for two years, served six terms in the state Legislature and was lieutenant governor from 1968-71.
