PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in helping a Pierre woman who was bit by a dog on Sunday. Investigators are trying to find the dog to determine whether it has had its rabies shots. Pierre Police Officer Troy Swenson says the elderly woman was bit on the wrist by a dog that was being walked by another woman near Elizabeth Street and Poplar Avenue on Sunday evening about 9:15 p.m. He says the victim described the dog as being a larger sized-black lab.
The bite victim could not provide any information on the woman who was with the dog. Swenson says she did describe the dog as appearing to be hard to handle.
Swenson says the victim has only a few more days before she’ll have to go through rabies shots–if the dog is not identified and it is determined that it has had its rabies vaccinations. Anyone that has more information that might assist investigators in finding the dog and its owner should contact the Pierre Police Department at 773-7410.
