PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Another series of intersection closures are expected today as part of the South Dakota Department of Transportation’s truck bypass reconstruction project that started in Pierre earlier this month. Closures of Garfield Avenue–where it intersects with Harrison Avenue and Flag Mountain Drive–can be expected at various times today and the closures could last one to two hours. Lynn Patton, Construction and Operations Manager for the City of Pierre says motorists should avoid the areas if alternative routes are available. He also advises caution when traveling in the construction zone. Patton says the truck bypass project will be a lengthy one that will require motorists to be alert for traffic control changes that will occur daily and weekly. Officials expect paving on the highly traveled road to be complete by the end of August and the entire reconstruction effort should be done by mid-October.
