RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Boys State Tennis Tournament will be held in Rapid City beginning today and running thru Saturday. Twenty-one teams totaling 137 individuals have entered the tournament including the Pierre Governors. Champions will be determined in six singles flights and three doubles flights over the course of the three days. The 2011 Team Champion was Sioux Falls O’Gorman and while O’Gorman is listed as one of the pre tournament favorites again this year, Pierre head coach Jeff Schlekeway says they are not the overwhelming favorite like they have been in the past. Rapid City Stevens and Watertown are listed by the Governor head coach along with Sioux Falls Lincoln and Pierre. First round singles matches begin at 9:00 a.m. with Flights 1, 2, and 3 at Sioux Park, and Flights 4, 5 and 6 at Parkview Tennis Complex. Doubles matches will start at 1:30 p.m. with all three flights at Sioux Park. Matches continue at both sites at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, and on Saturday at Sioux Park starting at 9:00 a.m. and at 8:30 a.m. at Parkview Tennis Complex. For a complete schedule or rain delay information, check the SDHSAA website: www.sdhsaa.com. This year will be the 81st edition of the tournament.
