PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion Basseball team dropped their season opener to the Aberdeen Smittys Saturday night losing 14-7 at Hyde Stadium. Aberdeen scored 5 runs in the second and 4th innings to build a 10-1 lead before Pierre wittled it down to 10-7 in the 5th inning. But Aberdeen scored a run int he 7th and put the game away with 3 runs in the ninth. Ryan Goodwin led Pierre with 3 hits including a triple. Mac Mercer started and took the loss as he lasted only an inning and two thirds leaving the game trailing 5-1. Cody Honeywell releive Mercer in the second and allowed 5 runs in the 4th. Jarred Nielan worked the final two innings. Zach Rierson worked the first 6 innings for Aberdeen allowing 7 runs. Pierre plays Aberdeen and Rapid City Post 320 in a pair of games Sunday at 2 pm against Aberdeen and 4 pm against Rapid City Post 320. Post 320 and Aberdeen play at noon.
