Watertown Names New Head Football Coach

WATERTOWN, S.D. - Watertown High School activities director Steve Moore announced yesterday that Eureka native Steve Svendsen has been named the new coach of the Arrows, pending approval of the Watertown School Board.   The 1981 Eureka High School and 1986 Northern State University (Aberdeen) graduate has coached football for 27 years including stints as a head coach at two South Dakota Class 11AA schools.  Seven years at Aberdeen Central and Eight years at Rapid City Central.  Svendsen has spent the past five seasons as a varsity assistant at Magnolia (Texas) High School, where he served as the school’s co-offensive coordinator. Magnolia is a suburb of Houston.  Svendson will take over a program that produced a 1-8 record in 2011 under Scott Leitheiser. Leitheiser resigned in January after nine seasons that included a 56-37 record and three Eastern South Dakota Conference championship.
