BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana junior righthander Derek Hansen has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year while his teammate, freshman Designated Hitter Jack Goihl has been named the Conference’s Freshman of the Year.  Hansen set Augustana and NSIC single-season records in strikeouts, fanning 97 batters in all games and 82 in conference contests. Hansen is 7-3 and owns a 1.19 ERA in 60.2 innings pitched. He’s tossed two shutouts this season, and opponents are batting just .158 and haven’t hit a home run off the junior. In the latest NCAA statistical report, Hansen is first in the country in strikeouts per nine-inning game at 14.38.  Goihl’s rookie term included a .345 batting average, two doubles, six home runs and 21 RBIs. The true freshman logged 12 multi-hit games in 2012, including two four-hit contests. He also drove in multiple runs five times. Goihl, who spent most of the season at designated hitter, stole nine bases this season.
